Overview
Plan, control, develop and regularly monitor the conservation practices and ecological work within the
Shaybah Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS) (637km²) ensuring the protection, restoration and wellbeing of the flora and fauna which includes natural and captive breeding populations, as well as, the general maintenance and upkeep of related facilities. Ensure the visitation to the sanctuary adhere to good conservation practices, while at the same time provide an enlightening and educational experience of
the Rub al Khali ecosystem and highlights the role Aramco has in conserving this unique environment.
Job Outline:
Establish and control programs of natural resource assessment and re-assessment (monitoring).
This must include vegetation, animal populations and water resources assessments to establish carrying capacities and viable population numbers.
In conjunction with sanctuary manager develop and implement programs to establish viable indigenous wildlife populations through re-introductions and breeding programs with the use of supplementary feeding programs, artificial waterholes and shelters and veterinarian assistance
Control all aspects related to animal health and husbandry ensuring that they are kept in prime condition and where necessary administer permitted medical treatment for injured/sick animals. Keep the Sanctuary Manager updated on all aspects of treatment provided to the animals.
Keep the Conservation Manager informed and involved in order to ensure that the correct and proper schedules are maintained at all times.
Plan, schedule, control and regularly monitor the animal feeds, feeding schedules and nutritional requirements ensuring that the necessary feeding levels are maintained based on the animal group.
Develop and implement exceptional experiences for visitors to the sanctuary which include company staff, families and invited guests ranging from school students to VIP guests.
Work with the Aramco media teams to develop content to promote the work and biodiversity of the sanctuary.
Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of road networks, irrigation waterlines, animal sheds, shelters, perimeter fencing and animal water holes thereby ensuring that all necessary facilities are provided without any disruptions.
Ensure that all landscaping and flora re-establishment programs are maintained, monitored and developed. Regularly pursue the seasonal watering programs, fertilizers distribution and pruning to ensure maximum productivity. Implement and control environmental, clean-up and vegetation restoration programs.
Work with the Sanctuary contractor to control staff administration by implementing efficient rosters and leave plans thereby optimizing manpower resources ensuring a seamless operation.
Assist the Conservation Manager in budget preparation with regard to forecasting expenses related to the maintenance of the flora and fauna.
Knowledge/skills:
– Ecological and environmental conditions of the desert.
– Environmental assessment with regards to ecological zones, vegetation and sustainability.
– Management of wildlife and captive breeding populations in their natural environment. Including
Animal feed and their nutritional value with regard to specific species.
– Safety and security practices related to wildlife, their transportation and re-location.
Proficient command of spoken, written and presentational skills in English
