Rig Mechanic / Equipment Operator (Drilling & Workover)
Job Summary / Objective
This position is responsible for operating and maintaining critical diesel and electric rig components to ensure continuous, uninterrupted drilling operations. Based on-site in Saudi Arabia, the role requires a highly adaptable technician capable of diagnosing mechanical equipment, reading technical blueprints, and leading a crew under remote field conditions.
Core Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate, service, and maintain diesel/electric rig components and related equipment, with a heavy focus on the Top Drive system.
- Operational Continuity: Apply a strong working knowledge of drilling operations to make informed recommendations and decisions that minimize rig downtime.
- Cross-Craft Support: Utilise a working knowledge of secondary crafts—including welding, pipefitting, crane operations, plumbing, and carpentry—to support overall rig maintenance.
- Technical Interpretation: Read, interpret, and apply mechanical blueprints, equipment spare parts lists, and manufacturer service manuals.
- Crew Leadership: Supervise, motivate, train, and coordinate subordinates on the rig floor to ensure safe and efficient work practices.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Technical Skills
- Rig Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in operating and maintaining diesel/electric rig components and related equipment (including Top Drive).
- Industry Knowledge: Deeply familiar with standard oilfield terminology and general drilling operations.
- Blueprints & Manuals: Proven capability to read and understand mechanical blueprints, equipment spare parts catalogs, and service manuals.
Communication & Language
- English: Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
- Arabic: Colloquial Arabic is desirable but not required.
Licenses & Logistics
Living Conditions: Must be fully willing to work and live in isolated locations under drilling camp conditions.
Driving License: Must possess a valid Saudi driving license OR a Saudi Arab government-acceptable international driving license.
