Job Summary / Objective
The Derrick Man plays a vital role within the rig crew, balancing heavy physical demands with specialized tasks at height. This position requires handling drilling pipe from the derrick platform during tripping operations and maintaining essential floor-level tasks under intense environmental conditions.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute Height-Specific Operations: Safely handle, stack, and guide sections of drilling pipe and collars from the derrick board at heights exceeding 100 feet.
- Support Rig Floor Activities: Actively perform comprehensive rig man tasks, seamlessly transitioning between floor work and derrick work as required by the drilling program.
- Maintain Equipment Familiarity: Identify, monitor, and manage components utilizing a comprehensive understanding of the nomenclature of rotary drilling equipment.
- Endure Isolated Field Conditions: Perform rigorous, physically demanding, and potentially hazardous work tasks while living on-site at isolated well locations.
Role Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience & Training: Must have a minimum of one (1) year of on-the-job training and direct experience as a rig man, including both floor and derrick work.
- Language & Communication: Must be able to fully understand work directions and safety instructions delivered in English.
- Physical & Spatial Aptitude: Must possess high physical stamina, a good sense of balance, and the coordination necessary to work safely at heights in excess of 100 feet.
- Working Conditions: Willing to perform hard and hazardous work under the extreme weather conditions involved in drilling wells and willing to live at isolated well sites.
